Please be reminded that these rules are not intended for competition play,

​

but rather to keep the game equal among all players, coaches, and parents.  

 

Our main goal is to play basketball at a recreational level, so our children

 

can learn the basic skills of the game, develop, and most importantly have

 

FUN.

                                       Northman Hoops Rules 2019/2020

​

 

Instructional Division (Pre-K/K):

  • 3-4 work stations on skill development for shooting, dribbling, and passing.

  • Format set by coach’s discretion.

 

Lower Division (Boys Grades 1-3/Girls 1-3):

  • 2-20-minute running clock whole game.

  • Format is 4 on 4, all players should play equal time.

  • Defense always stays behind the three point at all times, no man to man defense.

  • No referees, head coach’s are on court with team as referee’s and offering guidance to team players.

  • No timeouts unless of course there is an injury or there is a need to sub players in, so all kids get equal time on court.

 

Middle Division (Boys Grades 4-6/Girls 4-6):

  • 2-20-minute periods, running clock except last 3 minutes in 2nd half.

  • Format is 5 on 5, all players must play at least 20 minutes (half game) more advanced “A” players need to sit out at least 5 minutes per half.

  • Man-to-Man defense only first ten minutes of game, second half open to coaches discretion. 

  • No press unless the last 3 minutes, no press at all if team is up by more 20pts.

  • 2 time-outs per half (Use it or lose it).

  • 5 fouls allowed per player

  • We have young referees in this division, please respect their judgment calls as they are learning and helping the league.

 

Upper Division (Boys Grades 7-8):

  • 2-20-minute periods, running clock except last 3 minutes in 2nd half.

  • Format is 5 on 5, all players must play at least 20 minutes (half game) more advanced “A” players need to sit out at least 5 minutes per half.

  • Press allowed, no press if Team is up more than 20 points.

  • 5 fouls allowed per player

  • 2 time-outs per half (Use it or lose it).
     

Upper Division (Girls Grades 7-Up):

  • 2-20-minute periods, running clock except last 3 minutes in 2nd half.

  • Format is 4 on 4, no fast breaks if team is up more then 20.

  • 5 fouls allowed per player

  • 2 time-outs per half (Use it or lose it).

  • Rules may dictate as both coaches see fit, and safety of the children.

 

High School Division (Boys Grades 9-up):

  • 2-20 minute periods, running clock except last 3 minutes in 2nd half.

  • Format is 5 on 5, all players must play at least 20 minutes (half game) more advanced “A” players need to sit out at least 5 minutes per half.

  • Press allowed, no press if team is up more than 20 points.

  • 5 fouls per player

  • 2 time-outs per half (Use it or lose it).
